About the Company Redd Legg Dance is an organization dedicated to bringing technique-based modern dance to the people of greater Seattle. It is the company's highest goal to present dances that speak to a wide audience. The company's mission is two-fold: to present works of strong artistic merit that speak to social issues of today, and to present works that capture the imagination of young people and make dance more accessible to today's youth. The company's full-length works are poignant; at times humorous, at times raucous. Redd Legg Dance's youth programs strive to present works that build connections between the arts and core curriculum subjects and make dance more accessible to children of all backgrounds. Coming from a ballet background, Artistic Director, Kristen Legg, incorporates classical lines into her modern works. While some works are highly technical and others more performance art based, all are extremely theatrical in nature. Past works have ranged from lyrical to angular, serious to quirky, upbeat to contemplative. Of Legg's work, the Kalamazoo Gazette said, “Part dance, part performance art…like a surrealist version of voguing…The dancers brought the house down…Eat you heart out, Madonna.” Along with company performances, Redd Legg Dance has been seen at Ballard Art'fisk, ‘Sammamish Live!' and ‘Inspiration' arts festivals in Bellevue, and at 'Delve' and ‘Take/Pause' presented by eXit SPACE School of Dance. The company was also featured in 'Room,' a collaboration of choreographers organized by The Three Yells, presented at Seattle University's ‘Highwire' concert series. Redd Legg Dance is dedicated to expanding participation in the arts and increasing the visibility of dance in the Seattle area. The company presents for both the dance community and those who have little or no exposure to the arts. It is the company's belief that the only way to increase interest in the arts is to constantly be evolving, adding new elements, new artists, and new funding sources. As Redd Legg Dance enters into its 5th full season, the company is traveling to local schools, presenting at fundraising events for charities, and continues to perform at community events throughout Seattle, while still presenting full-length concerts in and around Seattle. |
